Music – curriculum information

Curriculum Information

At Withernsea Primary School we want to develop pupils’ love for a range of music whilst developing their understanding of music history and music from different cultures.

Within Foundation Stage and KS1, our children will explore using different types of instruments such as maracas, drums and glockenspiels. Pupils will listen to music to develop their repertoire which is developed following the Charanga Scheme.

In KS2, the pupils continue to embed their understanding of music thought listening, singing, playing and composing across a variety of historical periods, styles and genres. This continues to follow the Charanga Scheme and includes many opportunities to develop further skills.

Across KS2, our children are given the opportunity to learn various musical instruments from a specialist music tutor including keyboard, guitar and recorder. Some of our pupils are also a part of the school choir, with links to the community.

We aspire that our music curriculum and extra-curricular activities will enable pupils to discover their interests and help them to see future possibilities.
